1 Corinthians 18:14
“Let all you do be done in love.”
In the simplest of ways, I’m here to love. That’s as straightforward as I can be. I’m simply alive to love and love well.
The world is a dark place. A place full of lies that throw on attractive masks with “love” written all over them. It’s a masquerade of deceit and despair. It’s terrifying, yet so easy to fall prey too. It’s death sugar-coated with a false sense of joy and peace. Lately, love has been twisted and contorted. Love’s been molded into what we want it to be. The truth has been reworked to please a hurting and broken world.
But I’ve seen it. I’ve seen the Lord of Lords come down to hurting people and simply place his finger of love on their hearts, even for a split second, and his love spreads, heals, changes everything. In a split second, I’ve seen walls crash down and those nasty masks shatter.
This idea of leading a life of love, our world relishes in it. They cling to it and chant it from the rooftops. But they’re doing it with those masks superglued to their faces. They’re doing it with signs and paint, all covering and warping the truth. And some of us join them.
Some of us sit back quietly, our bare faces pale and stained with tears. We wonder, how did it get to this point? We ask Jesus, when will you come down in love and fix this?
But some stand. Some as weak and small and simple as they can be, stand. They look at the colorful loud faces of “love” and say, “let the love of Jesus Christ, the only love that can save you, come.”
We love because Jesus first loved us. It takes knowing Jesus’ love for us to be able to love others well. What better day to dive into the love of Jesus than Valentine’s Day. So, as you spend this day single, dating, engaged, maybe even married, take a few minutes and sit with Jesus. Ask him in the silence of your heart to show you his great love, to be all you need, and lead you into a live vibrant and contagious with his love.
