Colossians 3:12-14
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Here are two things that I encourage you to think about today:
First, before Jesus came in our lives, we were self-centered people, only concerned over our own interests. But now with Christ as the center of our being, our lives are characterized by compassion, love, forgiveness, harmony and thanksgiving.
As we grow in Jesus, we grow in these things. We cannot live this life under our own strength. We desperately need the Holy Spirit to empower us, to fill us. When this happens, we will choose compassion over self-centeredness, love over hate, unity over discord.
Each one of us will learn to listen daily for the Spirit of God in His Word. And we will have a newfound strength to follow him in obedience, even through normal circumstances.
Second, salt brings out the best flavor in food, doesn’t it? Colossians 4:6 says,
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” The right amount of salt just has a way of making things better.
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” The right amount of salt just has a way of making things better.
Believe it or not, God wants our words to do the same thing! The things we say both to and about other people should be so full of grace, love, and kindness that they leave those who hear them feeling better. As followers of Jesus, we have the opportunity to use our words to season the lives of those around us for the better—just like salt does with our food!
Let’s go a little deeper today. Ask yourself, what behaviors are we called to take into our lives? In Colossians 3:12-14 it says, “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” How can we do these things in our everyday life?
Spend time today praying God would help you choose words that offer only what is good to those who hear them. Season your conversations with salt today and watch how God moves and works in beautiful ways.
