Micah 6:8
And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

“What can I do?” That’s a question I hear often nowadays and a question I’m constantly stopping to ask myself. Whether it’s being vocal on social media or joining in a peaceful protest, most of us are filled with this longing to take action. But I want my actions to reflect love. I want my actions to be in-line with Jesus

That’s why we turn to the bible. We look to the word of God for guidance. In times like this, I want to do what the Lord requires of me rather than what I rashly decide all on my own. I can decide what is right and what is wrong, but majority of the time I’m a little off. We’re human, prone to fall short. We can’t trust our hearts or feelings and in a time when emotions are high and the media is louder than ever, all we can do is turn to Jesus and ask for guidance. How do we best love our neighbors, our brothers and sisters in Christ?

And here’s what the Lord requires of us: to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly. Fairly simple, right? Let’s dive in more and explore these three requests. Living into these three things fulfils a particular purpose God has for our lives and we don’t want to miss out on that.

To act justly. To be honest and fair. In these times, keep this mindset of “we” rather than “me.” Think of that phrase your mom used to sit you down and explain over and over; “treat others how you want to be treated.” There doesn’t need to be anything complicated about that.

To love mercy. To show compassion or forgiveness. Let’s have empathy for those around us. Let’s look at our brothers and sisters with a heart full of love, one like that of Jesus. And take that a step further. We’re not just called to love mercy when it comes to those we know and care about, but even to our enemies.

To walk humbly. To live out your life modestly and meekly. Today may be the day you need to reevaluate where you’re at in life. The Lord is above all, he rules and reigns and is all mighty. We are lowly. We have to remember our place in this world and not get too far ahead of ourselves. Pride can sneak in and rip us of our humility, leaving us in a scary place. Check your heart for pride and ask Jesus to search you, know you, and guide you in the way of humility.

So, as you walk through this day, slow down and ask yourself if you’re touching on these points God requires of you. Are you acting justly? Are you loving mercy? Are you walking humbly? Focus on what the Lord is asking of you and let your actions be that of love.
