Ephesians 2:3
All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”

As I write this devotional I can’t help but recognize all that I have. I have a laptop and an IPhone. I have a car that gets me from place to place. I have a home and food and all those essentials we so easily forget are blessings. I have friends that filter in and out of my day, whether that be in person or over text. I have a Netflix subscription and a TikTok account. And some days I feel like my hands are so full.

In the eyes of most, I have it all. We have it all. But I’m still reaching out to grab more. I grab more apps to fill up my free-time with endless scrolling. I grab new shoes and new sunglasses. I keep filling my hands with more.

Having it all, all this comfort and security, sets us up to be doing alright. We’re chillin’; are we not? When your hands are full, the gospel, the truth of Jesus coming and dying for you (a sinner) and saving you, doesn’t always fit in. We have it all, we don’t need saving… we don’t need a savior… do we?

Holding on to all our blessings, distractions, and junk covers the real issue; the real issue of sin. I’ve heard people say, “Oh I’m a good person, I try really hard to be good and even when I mess up or slip up, I’m good at the core of who I am.. That’s all that really matters.” But that’s not what the bible says. The bible says we’re sinful. In Ephesians 2:3 it says we gratify the cravings of our flesh, follow its desires and thoughts, and ultimately deserve the wrath of God. That’s deep.

I’m not saying sell all your possessions, even though some do. I’m not saying delete all your apps and throw your phone in the trash. No, I’m saying maybe open up your hands. If some things fall out don’t go grabbing for them. In simple terms, surrender. I’m asking you to surrender because there truly is joy in surrendering and Jesus is that joy.

Take time and listen to this song. Start meeting Jesus right where you’re at hands full and start surrendering… it’s worth it. Jesus and only Jesus is more than worth it.
