Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

How is your trust in the Lord? How much do you trust Him with? You have a big test, so you pray for it? You’re about to go play your first game on varsity, so you pray to help with the nerves? Maybe you’re looking for a relationship and you ask God to show you the perfect person.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” I think the part that I have a problem with sometimes is the “lean not on your own understanding.” I love to ask God for guidance, but secretly in my mind have another plan ready, just in case I don’t like God’s plan. You know, I am living life and a wrench gets thrown into place and I’m like, “man, how could this be planned?” Whenever there’s a problem in my life or a turning-point decision, I usually have a plan that I want to do first. When I was choosing my major in college, I knew what I wanted before I even prayed about it. I was ready to go, you know, leaning on my own understanding, and moved forward. Let me tell you, it didn’t go well. I changed my major twice, with the last choice finally being what I always knew God was calling me to all along.

If you have a decision to make, pray about it. Truly trust in the Lord. He wants to guide you and He wants to lead you. Allow Him to push you in the right direction. God will accomplish His will either way, wouldn’t it be way more fun to be a part of it?
