“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16

Praying in front of people is a scary thing. It is almost as terrifying as speaking in public. There is this fear of saying the wrong thing or stumbling over words. A couple of months ago, I was praying over a group of 50 people and instead of saying “pray” I said “play.” “God, I play that you be with us and I play for peace and I play for us to trust you…” I’m guessing you may feel some second-hand embarrassment for me right now. I was so embarrassed after this that I was ready to quit praying with others altogether.

When we focus on trying to say the perfect things and worry more about what others think, we are not praying out of the passion that comes from faith. When we fully believe in God’s unconditional love for us, we can confidently pray out of passionate love and not out of the stress of perfection.

When you pray alone, it is private and intimate. No one is there to judge. This is why it is difficult to pray with others. Prayer is a vulnerable act. When our focus is on what others think, our prayer will be missing the most important thing driving it; faith-led passion.

Confidently knowing God’s love for us will transform our prayers into confident, bold words that will fill others with the same passion that is used to pray in the first place.

What is holding you back from praying with others? Why is it hard for you to approach God boldly? I welcome you to pray out of passion for and with someone who is on your heart this week and experience how powerful faith-led passion truly is.
