Psalm 38:9-10
“You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.”
There have been many times I have sinned and instantly felt guilt and shame. I imagine receiving disapproving looks from God. Sometimes this shame causes me to hide and not feel worthy of going to God in prayer. If God is angry at me, I do not want to confess because of embarrassment and shame. Yet David shows throughout the book of Psalms that God is the only one to turn to in times of hopelessness and hurt.
Picture David, a man who loved God more than anyone in his time, sleeping with his best friend’s wife and then sending his friend off to be killed in war so David did not have to deal with the consequences. I find comfort knowing that David missed the mark big time. It just shows that we all fall short no matter how close we are to God.
“You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.” Psalm 38:9-10
Even when David was full of shame, he went to God with all of it. He confesses in this psalm that even though his strength is failing, he still longs for God and is confident that God hears him.
Shame is powerful, but the love and grace of God are so much more powerful.
Instead of allowing the shame and guilt of sin to eat at you, go to the only being who can take away the burden and the weight of your sin. God loves us so much and wants us to know that we can depend on God.
Take some time today and pray a prayer of confession. Feel comfort and peace knowing that the God of the universe cares and is listening to every sigh.
