Matthew 22:14
“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

A call from Spam Risk is like a bug on the windshield, a rock in your shoe, a mild irritation that interrupts the day. Yes, it’s just a call… the screen lights up and those dreaded words, “SPAM RISK” slide across the glass, but there are days when it’s more than a call, it’s an interruption, a distraction. It’s the worst when I’m waiting on a call, a good call, and I get good ol’ Spam trying to reach me yet again.

I’ve stopped paying attention to these calls. The random numbers that aren’t saved? Sent straight to voicemail. Calls from New York or Michigan… Who would be contacting me from there? Rejected.

I sometimes wonder, after clicking that power button, muting the unimportant ring of spam, if someone was on the other end with something really crucial to tell me. What if it’s a long lost relative or the FBI? What if it’s Jesus? Yes, I’ve had these outlandish thoughts, but it got me thinking… What would I do if Jesus called? If my phone lit up and the screen said, “Jesus” in bold unavoidable font… Would I answer?

First instinct from all of us (I hope) would be YES! But then answer me this… why do we go days, weeks, months ignoring his calls? Ok, sure, Jesus isn’t actually giving us a ring on our phones, but wow of wow is his call real and loud. He uses people, vibrant sunsets, still soft whispers when we stop rambling on and on in prayer, pastors and preachers. He’s dying to get our attention. He’s calling us more than those pesky Spam Riskers and we mute him just the same.

Here’s your Jesus call today. This devotional right here is Jesus calling. Imagine every word a vibration, every sentence a real ring. He longs for us to answer his call and even if the first few moments of the call are silent, there is power, peace, and rest in the silence (embrace it).
