Ecclesiastes 3:20

“All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return”
SMLXL

Today marks the first day of lent. You might be wondering, what does that mean for me? Well, let’s start by understanding what Ash Wednesday represents, why people go to services for it, and smear ashes on their foreheads.
It can seem a little strange, but there’s so much packed behind it all! We, as Christians, believe Jesus came and died for our sins. We don’t take that sacrifice lightly and in response, a lot of Christians participate in the season of Lent, where they sacrifice something in return. Ash Wednesday starts that season. It’s day one of the lent season. Today is a holy day that gives us the chance to confess our sins and profess our devotion to God.
You might not have something in mind to give up for Lent, but it’s not to late. Today, Ash Wednesday, is your day to stand before a loving merciful God and say, “Thank you. All I have is yours. I offer you my life. I offer you _____ for the remainder of this Lent season.” You fill in the blank.
What is it that keeps you from diving deeper with Jesus?
Is it social media; more specifically, TikTok? Is it your mornings and your love for sleeping in? Is it Netflix? Is it binge eating junk food? Is it your weekends? Is it partying?

This month is the month to sacrifice something and press into Jesus. Join those around you and let’s give up something for lent, something that hinders our relationship with Jesus.
