1 Corinthians 7:29-31 (paraphrase)
“Hold loosely the things of this world”
We hold so tight to things. I think of a toddler, running around with their forever favorite blanket, no matter how dirty or ragged it is, they cling, clenched fist to their loveys. That small rag, something a toddler just can’t live without, is much like things we hold tight and refuse to surrender before the Lord.
The scariest part about it all is how those loveys we cling to can keep us from fully worshipping, fully experiencing, and fully being in deep relationship with Jesus. Your lovey, raggedy blanket, I promise it doesn’t even compare to Jesus, to all he has for you.
Today, really think about the things you’re holding much too tight to. Think of the things you just can’t seem to let go of. Are those few things hindering you from truly worshipping Jesus? Is it the idea of going back to school? Is it your social media? Is it your boyfriend or girlfriend?
In order to live a life of worship, we’ve got to start loosening our grip. Hold things loosely and if you feel deep down letting go is necessary (even if it seems scary), do it. Let go and watch as your life slowly fills with more room and space for Jesus to lavish love on you.
