John 21:12
“Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast…'”
Hot coffee brewing, bacon sizzling, and muffins rising in the oven. All the wonders and joys of breakfast make my mornings the most enjoyable part of the day. And some days, I imagine a morning breakfast, not spent alone but spent with Jesus, my friend.
We can treat our mornings like that. We can hurry downstairs and prep a quick meal, pull out our bibles and sip coffee in the presence of Jesus. Actually, mornings spent with Jesus are extremely important. Why? Because Jesus loves to gather us and then scatter us. But we can’t effectively be scattered if he hasn’t gathered us first.
Let me explain. If you take your mornings with Jesus seriously, sit and eat with him, wonderful things will happen. 1) You begin to grasp a deeper understanding of who you are as a son or daughter of God, 2) you begin understanding the heart of God and how Jesus sees the world, 3) you begin to hear and comprehend what your purpose, call, and mission is. At that point, you’re ready to be scattered.
Scattered to love on others throughout your day. Scattered to share the good news of Jesus. We’re prepped and loved, and seen and cared for in our gathering morning breakfast with Jesus to be scattered around our community. What is it that you need to discuss with Jesus at breakfast? Make a list, spend time intentionally gathering with him so that he may scatter you.
