Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Music is something that elicits emotions within us as we listen to it. There have been countless times where I have cried at a sad song. I like to create playlists on Spotify and if I am in a sad mood, my chill vibes playlist feeds all of the feels. The thing is, once I finish listening, I almost feel more sad than before.

Music doesn’t just relate to our emotions, it feeds it. As important as it is to process our pain and anger, it is also just as equally important not to dwell in negative emotions. It is kind of like that saying you are what you eat; If you eat music that is full of bitterness and anger, you will become an angry and bitter person.

My question for you is who are you? Do you see yourself as someone who is fun and joyful, always making people happy? Or do you find yourself more alone and distant from others?

Changing your music from songs that feed your sadness or anger into songs that create emotions that are healthy for you is something that can help you process those negative feelings in a better way. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

You can only think about things that you listen to. If you listen to anger, you will think about anger. If you listen to worry, you will think about worry. If you listen to hope, you will think about hope.

I encourage you to take a moment and see what emotions you’re feeding yourself through the music you are listening to. If this is not who you want to be, try listening to a couple songs that will encourage and lift you up instead.
