Matthew 28:19-20
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Jesus didn’t ascend into heaven without giving his disciples direction. He wouldn’t leave his good friends and followers with zero idea as to what to do next. He loved them and beyond that, he loved the world, longed for the whole earth to know him in the same way his disciples did.
So, he told his disciples, go out and tell others about me. Lead them into relationship with me. Teach them how to obey my commands and how to grow close with me. He promised he’d be with them always as they went out on this mission.
It’s a mission, is it not? This moment in history, Jesus’ final mission for his disciples is actually referred to as The Great Commission. The great sending off to begin a huge mission.
Have you ever done an escape room? It feels like you’re completing an intense mission sometimes. You’ve got rules and clues, your eyes are fixed on the goal placed before you. And now, as followers of Jesus, we’re welcomed into that same kind of call. We’re welcomed into the same mission as the disciples. We’re apart of The Great Commission.
We look at Jesus’ life and this need to carry out our mission is lit under us. As we look forward with imagination and anticipation, we can begin carrying out this mission. God has a plan for our future and he longs for us to join in his master mission to save the world. If that’s not enticing and exciting, I don’t know what is. His mission is the ultimate escape room and he’s inviting us into the completion of the mission with him.
You’re a vital piece to how all this unfolds and stepping into your role as a disciple, helping others come to know Jesus, matters. Our mission matters. Why? Because when you know and love Jesus, his mission becomes yours.
Today, how are you going to step into your mission with Jesus? We can’t save the world on our own, that’s impossible. Only Jesus can. But he longs to use us here and there. Take time today to ask Jesus for guidance. Ask him where he longs to use you. Maybe it’s a call to a friend or family member. Maybe it’s an encouraging text. Maybe it’s the need to sit and pray for others. You’re a part of a great mission, live like it!
