John 14:16
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.”
As Christians, we believe the Holy Spirit has made our hearts his home. We believe the presence and love of Jesus dwells with us daily. When we wake till we lay our heads back on our pillows, that same spirit that lived in Jesus, lives now in us.
If that’s truly the case, why then is worshipping God in the mundane so hard? Why is it that our days can drag on and feel so boring, so bleh and we not once feel near to Jesus. We all struggle through those types of days.
Maybe, the reason we struggle to feel close to God is because we don’t practice drawing near to him. Just like anything else we long to grow in, we have to practice. I know this might feel strange, but practice drawing near to God today. What does that look like? Well, just like you’d do if you were learning to play the piano, you’d pull out your piano books, study the notes, press those ivory keys, and settle into the loveliness of a melody. But, without that piano book, the notes displayed so perfectly as your guide, you’d have no clue what keys to press or how to begin playing.
The same goes for worshipping Jesus. We’ve got to start with our guide book, the bible. Flip open your bible today and start in the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John and read the words of Jesus. Read about what he calls us to do, read about how he lived and walked among men, read and put into practice what Jesus says. Watch as you begin to feel closer to the Holy Spirit, the one who lives in your heart, it only takes practice.
