Genesis 22:2
“Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

We all have someone we love more than anyone else. We all have a passion that makes us feel complete. I couldn’t imagine what I would do if God told me to sacrifice my sister or to give up my phone forever. What if He called me to give up dancing? I feel like I would be so lost with all these things.

Abraham did not even flinch when God called on him to sacrifice his son. Genesis 22:2 states, “Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Why wasn’t he freaking out? Because he had faith in God. he trusted and loved God so much that he would do anything for him.

Sacrifice is a way of worshipping God. When we see our relationship with God as the most important thing in our life, we trust him and worshipping him by trusting God with the things or people we love most. In this story, Abraham trusted that nothing bad would happen to Isaac. This is why it was so easy for Abraham to hand Isaac over.

There are things in our lives that we sometimes put before God. Think of what you spend your time and money on. What are you constantly thinking about? Whatever those things are, if they are not God, then he wants you to sacrifice those things to him. This does not mean quitting or fully getting rid of things. It simply means finding a way of putting God before any of those things.

Today, find some time to think about your priorities. How can you sacrifice those things so that God can be put first in your life? By doing this, God will be worshipped through you trusting and prioritizing him.
