Isaiah 1:17
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and please the widow’s cause”
Jesus was all about justice. We serve a God who’s heart breaks for those oppressed. And we see this again and again in the bible. We see it so much so that it’s impossible for us to sit back silent in the face of tragedy, oppression, and injustice.
The Lord fought and won battles for the Israelites in the Old Testament. They are stories we get chills when we hear. The walls of Jericho came tumbling down and a giant fell dead after a slingshot rock sunk in his forehead. God stepped in and performed miracles. And it didn’t end there. Jesus came down for the poor, for the oppressed, for those marginalized. He came to speak up for men and women that weren’t being given a fair chance. He bridged this gap between Jew and Gentile, adopting anyone who proclaimed him Lord into this holy family.
Now, the Holy Spirit lives with us and we’re called to be the hands and feet of Christ. We’re called to share Jesus with others and love our neighbors as Jesus would. We’re called to stand up against injustice, fight alongside the oppressed, and speak out in truth.
You’re not too small. You’re not overlooked. Your voice matters. On days when you don’t know what to say, when you’re overwhelmed, when you feel darkness is suffocating all that’s good, remember who lives in your heart. Remember that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to live within you so that you may love and care for others well.
You’re the Lord’s beloved and what you say and what you do holds weight. What you say is a reflection of Jesus’ heart.
Take time today to pray. Take time today with Jesus and ask him to speak to you and guide you. As you pray, begin praying for those in our world that are oppressed, facing injustice, and in need of a mighty God to step in. All we can start with is prayer, but from there we take action. So, pray today, so that you may feel equipped and prepared to take action tomorrow.
