Psalm 73:26

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

SMLXL

You know what’s such a bummer? When day three of Lent rolls around and we feel as if we just took a major “L” and missed the mark. You gave up caffeine drinks and you just ordered a large oat milk latte. Maybe you snoozed your “spend time with Jesus” alarm and dozed off for a few more minutes.

It happens. We’re going to fail. I used to hate that about my humanness, the fact that I so easily fail. But, have you ever taken a second to think about the character of God, especially in the midst of our mess-ups?

He’s our strength. He’s our help. He’s bigger and greater than any mistake we make and even if it’s a simple slip up on day three of Lent, he in no way is looking down scolding you from above. He’s right here next to you, reaching over to grab your hand, and walk with you.

What if we lived out this month, this season of Lent WITH Jesus. We do it in remembrance, yes. And in a sense, we’re doing it “for” and “because of Jesus’ sacrifice.” But what would it look like if we actively invited Jesus to walk with us in it? What you have offered as a sacrifice, given up, chose to go without for Lent is meant to open a new fresh space for Jesus to seep into the fabric of your daily life.

So, as you walk through this Lent season, don’t be discouraged if you take an “L” here and there. Instead, stop, pray, focus in on Jesus and watch the way he comes in and joins you.
