Proverbs 1:5
“Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.”
SMLXL

Let’s break this down.

If we read this properly, then one of the things that stands out in this verse is that “the wise listen.”

Say whaaaaaaaaat?
Not only that, but they learn from what they hear as well!
Here in the book of Proverbs, written by a guy named Solomon (also known as the most wise and richest man), we receive God-breathed advice:
Listen more than you talk and learn from what you hear.
Sometimes it’s easy to think that our ideas, thoughts, and opinions are the best ones. Especially because they came from our own minds. However, there is something so incredibly important about listening more than talking.
I had a teacher in school once say this to me:
“You only have two ears and one mouth for a reason. That might just be a sign that God built us to to listen twice as much as we speak”
Let’s take this verse from Proverbs and live it out. Let’s take practical steps toward actually taking action in our faith, instead of just talking about it. What might that look like in our own lives?
Well, here is one idea:
Seek out guidance from someone who can speak God’s truth in your life and listen. Guidance can come from God’s word as well as from the people that he strategically placed in your life.
Who can you turn to for guidance? Who has been placed in your life that can help guide you closer to Christ?
Take a moment and connect with someone who you can learn from and who can be praying for you as you listen more closely to God’s voice.
