Ephesians 5:16-17
“Mak(e) the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”

Easier said than done, right? Our life is so short, so fleeting, pretty much a vapor. As we spend all this time shut away behind our closed doors, it’s easy to feel like our days are wasted in boredom and TikTok scrolling. I’ve spent time really going back and forth in my head thinking, “what do I do now?”

Maybe this verse is hinting at something bigger… Maybe it’s not about what I feel I should do with my days, but what God says I should do.

What opportunity lies before you today? You might be thinking, “no opportunity. I have nothing to look forward to. I’m alone and bored.” But there is an opportunity today, we’re just too small to see it. We focus on our selfish needs. We focus on what we think will entertain us right now, what will keep us occupied, what is everyone else doing in quarantine? The days we live in are evil. And we can easily let these days get away from us, meaning we hold them in foolish hands and let them slip away.

We’re living in strange times. We’re home with not much to do, but one thing I know to be true is that weeks before all this, all I heard from those around me were phrases like, “I’m just so busy; I don’t have time to read my bible. I’m so tired from school and my practices that I can’t stay up and pray; I just fall asleep.” It goes on and on, but we’re here and we have all this time, all this opportunity to start understanding what the Lord’s will is and do it.

I’d like to think first and foremost his will is that we start deepening our relationship with him. That requires making time to spend with him. So today, with all the time you have, make the most of your opportunity and start diving just a little deeper. Open your bible and read something new. Extend your prayer time a few extra minutes. Call a friend and talk about how you can encourage each other in both your walks with Jesus.

Don’t waste today away, life is too short.
