Isaiah 53:6 says “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.”
Have you ever been in a situation where you were trying to get somewhere on time and then you get lost? For example, I remember my first day of freshman year in high school. I was early and wandering around the halls trying to find my classroom. I remember the clock kept ticking and I was really struggling to find the room. It was not a good feeling. Now, these days we have different tools to help us not get lost. We use directions on a map and our navigation systems on our phones. We have our friends to go with us places we’ve never been to before or we ask someone to help us find our way. Being “lost” is not something we enjoy, so we find ways to help us not stay lost. So then, why would we want to risk getting “lost” in our spiritual lives?
Let’s look at what scripture says on this topic.
Isaiah (in the Old Testament) talks about how the people of Israel are like sheep that have wandered away. They’re sheep that lost their way and stopped following their shepherd’s guidance. Isaiah 53:6 says “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.” But now, we know something that the Israelites didn’t know. We know that Jesus Christ came as a man and died on the cross to save us from our wandering. We know that there is a WAY. That we don’t need to be lost, because we have the good news of Jesus Christ as our savior. We now know of his love for us. (Romans 5:8).
Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” When we start to really dwell on this truth, it begins to shift our perspective, & change our hearts.
Isaiah 53:5 says, “..the punishment that brought us peace” was on Jesus. Do you have peace? Or are you still searching, trying to find your way? You don’t have to search or wander anymore. In a relationship with Jesus, we find peace and freedom. He doesn’t give up on us when we get off track or force us to submit to His will. Instead, He waits patiently for us to come to Him.
Ask yourself this, Is there an area of your life where you feel lost? What is one step you can take today to bring that part of your life to Jesus? Have you started a relationship with Jesus? If yes, thank Him for this precious gift. If not, what is holding you back?
